Geoffrey Chulu and his navigator Kapuzya Mbevya won the Afrivert Energy Monze Motor Rally over the weekend, the third round of the 2026 Zambia National Rally Championship, the Times of Zambia reported on Tuesday 27 October. Driving car number 5 for the MO Drive Racing Team, they finished ahead of team-mates Charles Hanankuni and Lweendo Simunzele in car 26, giving the team a one-two. Third place went to Kenny Mukosa Snr, with his son Kenny Mukosa Jr reading the notes, in car 6 for the Ntengwa Mubili team.
Zain Sidique and Michael Chulu, in car 10 for Pick a Part Racing, were fourth, and Abusahid Patel and Choolwe Chibika finished fifth in car 21 for Cazylinc. Despite finishing off the podium, Sidique still leads the 2026 championship standings, according to the paper, which gives no points totals. The fourth and final round is scheduled for late November, when the national champion will be crowned.
Gravel, plantations and a V8
The rally was organised by the Monze Motor Club in partnership with Afrivert Energy, with a corporate sponsorship pool the Times puts at K300,000. It was launched ceremonially at Monze Golf Club and run over more than 91.68 km of stages on gravel tracks and plantation roads around the Southern Province farming town, drawing hundreds of spectators from Monze and further afield. The paper's account singles out the Mukosas' drifting on the loose surfaces and a heavy-duty V8 Land Rover driven by local favourites, whose crew it does not name.
Monze's rally sits in a domestic calendar that has had the lion's share of attention this week going to Red Arrows, whose qualification for the CAF Confederation Cup group stage was covered by Lusaka Brief on Sunday and Monday. The group-stage draw for that competition was scheduled for Wednesday 28 October, according to a list of the 16 qualified clubs published by Africa Soccer on Sunday, which names Red Arrows as Zambia's representative alongside Al Ahly, Raja Casablanca, USM Alger and South Africa's Durban City.
