The confetti from the Stanbic weekend is swept, and the calendar it leaves behind is entirely our own. The Kwacha Music Awards have confirmed Friday, 27 November 2026 for this year's ceremony — the night the local industry's own ledger gets settled, and the natural sequel to a season in which Yo Maps, Mampi and Danny Kaya proved on the same bill as Jason Derulo that home acts can hold a festival's centre rather than warm its edges.
Before November, October keeps the stages warm. The National Theatre Arts Association of Zambia marks forty years with a week of events in Chingola from 19 to 24 October — a ruby anniversary for the body that carried Zambian theatre through the years when stages were the only uncensored rooms in the country. The heritage-season run opened midweek with the staging of "And… Action!", and the festival circuit rolls on: the Crocs Festival is billed for 17 October at the Bank of Zambia Sports Complex in Lusaka, with the Copperbelt's own calendar recovering from a season that Danny Kaya's festival in Kitwe had already ignited.
The through-line is the one the Culture Desk drew after the Showgrounds weekend: Zambia's festival economy is no longer a string of parties but a circuit — with organisers, sponsors and, as the Stanbic weekend showed, government ministries now speaking the same creative-economy language. The Kwacha Music Awards' task in November is to give that circuit its accounting: who made the year, and who the year belonged to. Nominations season is the next date to watch; the Desk will carry them when they land.
One footnote from the film world closes the loop. The 13th Zambia Short Film Festival's awards night in Lusaka last month recognised a crop of local filmmakers whose work is now the feedstock for the streaming deals the industry keeps promising itself. Music had its world-tour weekend; theatre has its anniversary fortnight; film has its laurels. The season after Derulo, it turns out, is booked solid.
