The capital's weekend now has a shape, and it is crowded. The Ministry of Tourism has launched the 2026 Diplomatic Fun Fair, set for Saturday, 3 October at the Lusaka Showgrounds — free entry, more than thirty countries represented, and a theme that doubles as the national tourism brand: "Zambia Moves You: Connecting Cultures and Inspiring the Future."
Permanent Secretary Evans Muhanga, launching the fair this week, framed it as cultural diplomacy with a gate count: traditional dances and music, a cultural fashion show, traditional games, storytelling, crafts, exhibitions and presentations on traditional ceremonies, with families, young people, residents, visitors and the creative sector all on the invitation list. "Through culture, we build friendships; through tourism, we connect people; and through cooperation, we create opportunities for a better future," he said, commending the diplomatic community and cooperating partners for backing the initiative. The fair sits inside the ministry's broader push to present Zambia as a leading destination — and to give Lusaka residents the world's traditions, food, music and fashion in one place, for nothing.
Three kilometres of Saturday will now carry the city's cultural economy on their own. At the Showgrounds, the fair runs through the afternoon; across town at Polo Field A, gates open at 12:30 for the Stanbic Music Festival, where Jason Derulo headlines over a Zambian undercard until 23:30. Between the two events — one free and diplomatic, one ticketed and commercial — sit the vendors, drivers, security crews, stylists and stagehands for whom this weekend is the busiest of the year. After a heavy news week, Lusaka has, at last, something to do on Saturday. The only real risk is traffic.
