The invitation list for October just gained its centrepiece. Organisers PR Girl Media have confirmed the milestone tenth edition of the Lusaka July for the weekend of 16 to 18 October, under a theme unveiled at a Manda Hill launch earlier this season: "The Tale of a Ruby" — forty years of the gemstone's anniversary, read into ten years of the event itself. Three signature events across the city will carry the edition, beginning with the Opening Night of Culture at the Lusaka National Museum on Friday the 16th, an evening of African fashion priced at K3,000 a head, or by invitation.
The name requires its annual footnote, and this year more than usual. The Lusaka July — born as the capital's winter racing-and-fashion fixture, modelled loosely on Durban's famous meeting — has drifted from its namesake month before, and 2026 plants it firmly in October: a year in which the election season redrew every calendar in the country, social ones included. What has not drifted is the formula — racing heritage, couture, and the see-and-be-seen economy that makes the weekend one of the few genuinely cross-class fixtures on Lusaka's social calendar.
Its new slot makes October the capital's most crowded cultural month in memory. The city is only now catching its breath for the Saturday ahead: the Diplomatic Fun Fair's thirty countries at the Showgrounds and Jason Derulo at the Stanbic Music Festival on the same day. Beyond the ruby weekend waits the Kwacha Music Awards, confirmed for 27 November. The tenth edition's wager is that a city which has spent the year in campaign mode is ready to dress up again. The museum, on the 16th, gets to answer first.
