The paperwork, as her new club put it, has finally fallen into place. Mercy Chipasula — 18 years old, a senior international since before she could vote, and one of the brightest exports the Zambian women's game has produced — has completed a permanent move from Kamfinsa Blue Eagles Queens of Kitwe to HB Køge Women of the Danish top flight. Both club and player confirmed the deal without disclosing its duration. She will wear the number 10.

"I chose to move to the club because I believe that it is the best place for me to develop," Chipasula told Køge's media team in Denmark. "I am still young and know that I have a lot to learn, so I feel that HB Køge Women is the right place for me to take the next steps in my career. I promise to work hard and do everything I can to contribute to the club's continued success."

The interest was not modest. Sporting director Jonas Nielsen said the club had beaten off competition from some of the biggest names in the women's game. "Mercy has something extra that we rarely find in young players in Denmark," he said. "She is strong one-on-one and can do some things with the ball that we have been missing in the squad. She has just turned 18, so we have to give her time and be patient. But I would like to promise our fans that we have brought in a player who will entertain."

The CV already reads older than the player. Chipasula captained Zambia at U17 level, graduated through the U20s, and has featured at two senior Women's Africa Cup of Nations — 2025 and 2026 — making her tournament debut under Nora Hauptle in the 1-0 win over DR Congo in Morocco. At home she was named the 2024 National Sportswoman of the Year. Her move extends a Copper Queens pipeline to Europe that has become one of the quiet success stories of Zambian sport: the senior women's side keeps producing players the European market now tracks from their teens.

For Kamfinsa Blue Eagles Queens it is a departure and a receipt — proof of concept for the FAZ Women's Super Division as a finishing school. For Chipasula, the work starts in a colder climate and a faster league, with a number on her back that Danish clubs do not hand out lightly.
