Lusaka's biggest night of the entertainment year is finally here. Jason Derulo headlines the Stanbic Music Festival at Polo Field A at the Lusaka Showgrounds this evening — one night only, as the billboards have promised for months — with gates running from 12:30 to 23:30 CAT. The American, whose catalogue of hits from "Whatcha Say" and "Talk Dirty" to "Savage Love" has sold more than 250 million singles worldwide, is the biggest international act the festival has landed, and his arrival has been the city's countdown story all week.
The bill around him is deliberately weighted toward home. Yo Maps, Mampi and Danny Kaya lead the local contingent, with Zimbabwe's Tamy Moyo among the regional guests; festival materials have also trailed American R&B singer Omarion. Demand has matched the billing: the organisers say the premium EN Circle enclosure is sold out, with remaining tickets moving through Tessera, Computicket and Stanbic branches nationwide. Members of Derulo's band were in Lusaka by Thursday, and the headliner recorded a countdown message for Zambian fans.
The festival's rise has tracked Lusaka's emergence as a viable stop for global touring acts — a status that brings its own Saturday logistics. The Showgrounds sit a short hop from a CBD that spent the morning under Operation Clear Path, and the city's traffic plan will be tested twice today: once by the vendor relocation, once by the evening exodus toward the Polo Field. Earlier on the same grounds, the Diplomatic Fun Fair draws its own daytime crowd, thirty-odd missions deep. Lusaka, in jacaranda season, is double-booked and happy about it.
What the night proves — beyond whether Derulo's choreography survives the October heat — is demand. A sold-out premium circle and a bill that pairs local royalty with an international headliner is the formula promoters here have chased for a decade. Tonight it gets its loudest test yet.
