The defending champions were beaten on Independence Day. FC MUZA defeated Power Dynamos 1–0 on Saturday 24 October, Solomon Mpasela scoring in the 50th minute, to move to ten points from four matches and a three-point lead at the top of Stream A of the transitional Super League, according to ZamFoot's round-up of week five. Power stay on six points, four behind MUZA with the same number of games played.
The weekend's other Stream A results were lopsided. Trident beat Makeni All Stars 6–1 at the Sentinel grounds, with Sam Sikasote scoring twice — the first in the 7th minute from a Jericho Mwila free-kick — Boyd Kauya adding one, Gradi Bakodila two in the 63rd and 65th minutes and Kelvin Mwamba the sixth near the end; Simon Tembo's 81st-minute goal was Makeni's reply, and they stay bottom on one point with a goal difference of minus nine. ZANACO beat Kansanshi Dynamos 3–0 through a Kiala Wa Kiala header and two goals from Araina Lambert to go third on seven points, and Nchanga Rangers edged NAPSA Stars 1–0 with a 3rd-minute goal from Mwiza Siwale.
Stream B: ZESCO's first win
In Stream B, ZESCO United's season finally started. Anthony Shipanuka scored in the first minute at the Trade Fair grounds in Ndola, Kennedy Musonda added two in quick succession either side of the 37th minute, one of them a penalty, Happy Nsiku headed a fourth from a corner on the hour and Elvis Addae completed a 5–0 win over Mutondo Stars late on after a goalkeeping error. ZESCO move to five points and second place; Mutondo remain pointless after four straight defeats. Green Eagles, held 0–0 by Nkwazi, stay top on ten points with three wins, a draw, six goals scored and one conceded, five clear of ZESCO and of Green Buffaloes, who have a game in hand.
The transitional season's format, as ZamFoot describes it, splits the 20 clubs into two streams of ten, each playing 18 matches, with the two stream winners meeting in a final on 31 January 2027. ZESCO have a rescheduled week-three fixture against Roan United to come in midweek.
