The Zambian Premier League has suspended all midweek matches under its umbrella scheduled between Monday 12 and Friday 16 October, for reasons yet to be disclosed. The suspension covers the MTN Super League, the Women's Super-Division, the Men's National Division and the Women's National Division, and takes in the Stream A top-of-the-table clash between leaders Nkana and NAPSA Stars that was set for Wednesday 14 October.

With immediate effect, all midweek matches (Monday to Friday) in the MTN Super League, the Women's Super-Division, the Men's National Division and the Women's National Division are suspended until further notice. This includes rescheduled and postponed matches allocated to midweek dates.
— ZPL Chief Executive Officer Joseph Chimpampwe, in Memo 115 of the 2026 Transition Season, dated 11 October

Mr Chimpampwe said new dates would be assigned to the suspended matches, and warned clubs against making independent arrangements to play them, directing clubs to inform players, officials, supporters and service providers immediately. Matches scheduled for the weekend of 17–18 October are not affected and will be played as scheduled, although clubs have been told to remain on standby for further developments.

The suspension lands on a transitional season that has just found its early pace-setters. On Sunday, Konkola Blades came from behind to beat Zanaco 3-2 at Sunset Stadium — Clive Biyeta's opener answered by a Dominic Kanda penalty and an Araina Lambert strike before half-time, then a Boyd Musonda penalty and Jackson Phiri's 66th-minute winner — to move level on six points with Nkana, who lead Stream A on goal difference.

Defending champions Power Dynamos recorded their first win of the campaign, edging Nchanga Rangers 1-0 at Arthur Davies Stadium through Joshua Mutale's 14th-minute free-kick. Nchanga are bottom without a point after two rounds; FC MUZA sit third on four.

Why the league has cleared its midweek calendar is, for now, unanswered: the memo gives no reason, and none has been offered since. What clubs know is that the backlog will have to land somewhere in an already compressed transitional calendar.
